About Me

I am Jean-Baptiste Carelus — a proud husband, father of three, first-generation Haitian-American, and a longtime resident of the Town of Hempstead.

I graduated from Hempstead High School, Class of ’87, and have spent my life giving back to the community. I bring both a deep love for this town and the knowledge and experience necessary to address the real, everyday challenges facing Council District 1.

I currently live in West Hempstead, where I volunteer as a firefighter and EMT with the West Hempstead Fire Department. I’m also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a lector at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, and a proud brother of Sigma Phi Rho Fraternity, Inc.

Being a firefighter has taught me that public service is about more than titles—it's about answering the call, standing with your neighbors, and working together when it matters most. That’s the spirit I will bring to the Town Council: collaboration, responsiveness, and a deep commitment to every member of our community.

I’m running because I believe District 1 deserves good government—government that listens, takes action, and delivers real results for real people.

With a Master’s in Economics and more than 20 years of experience in financial services, I’ve built a career making data-driven decisions that prioritize results over politics. I’ve worked at Standard & Poor’s (S&P), where I supported public finance, structured products, and hedge fund portfolios, and I now serve as a Senior Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO) Analyst with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). I’ve also founded my own consulting firm, providing expert witness and consulting support in complex financial litigation.

But beyond the credentials, my heart is here—with the people of this district.

I know what it means to serve, not as a politician, but as a neighbor, a volunteer, and a friend. I want to build a District 1 where:

·  Young families choose to plant roots,

·  Seniors feel safe, respected, and supported,

·  Small businesses thrive, and

·  Every resident is proud to call this place home.

I believe in the strength of our community, and I know that together, we can build a better future.
